ALDI - Strategy + Information Architecture
eCommerce & Retail
Challenge
ALDI.com uses a Type03 CMS platform that is limited in structure and component offerings – the goal is to build usable templates for the homepage design that showcase a flexible set of marketing offerings, while still delivering the ALDI brandy story.
Solution
By understanding the component breakdown of the current Type03 platform, we proposed homepage templates based off a modular design system approach. This allows ALDI to keep content in familiar areas, finding the balance between the weekly Ad, marketing content and brand story.
Role + Process
Sr. UX Designer – I owned the creation of the strategy and design document that was presented with solutions for interchangeable homepage structures. I also created zone diagrams and wireframes for potential page scenarios to highlight current marketing from seasonal product stories to the weekly ad. This helped to guide the client on how to weave content on the homepage using the limited component library in a more compelling way.
Client Impact
The client was delighted with our approach…
“…The work I saw today for the homepage wireframes was A+ work… I can tell that the team communicated internally, was very thoughtful in approach, and pulled a deck together to clearly communicate the work.” – Director of Marketing, ALDI
